Looking for an online A-Level Maths Tutor?
You've come to the right place
About me
My name is Mike Danzelman and I graduated with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Sheffield in 1994. I have a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and am a qualified teacher.
Since 1998 I’ve been a full-time A-Level maths tutor and a Head of Department at London’s leading independent fifth and sixth form tutorial college. I've spent the past 25 years delivering two year A-level courses, accelerated one year retakes and Easter Revision programs to hundreds of students. During my career I’ve taught pupils from top independent schools including Westminster, St. Paul's Girls' School, Godolphin & Latymer, City of London School for Girls, Eton, Dulwich College and many others. I've also tutored pupils from state schools and international students who are new to the UK education system. All these students share the same goal: to achieve top grades and gain entry to the best UK universities.
I am passionate about my subject and I invest in the success of every student I teach. I am a firm believer in academic integrity and understand that maths can only be mastered through a careful, systematic approach that grows from solid foundations. I offer the best possible tuition using a combination of the highest quality materials and an accessible, academically rigorous teaching style.

What to look for when choosing a tutor
There’s no shortage of people offering to tutor. And because the industry is largely unregulated anyone can apply. Search online and you’ll find plenty of undergraduates offering their services at prices that reflect their limited experience and teaching expertise. Many parents are impressed by highly academic tutors - but does that university lecturer know the syllabus and can they pitch at the right level? Watching someone solve questions or do your homework for you may be a short term fix but won't help in the long run.
So what should you look for in a tutor?
A good tutor is someone who is patient and approachable, who understands their subject and who can explain difficult ideas clearly and concisely. A great tutor can quickly build a rapport to assess where the weaknesses are and tailor their teaching to meet those needs. The best tutors also have many years of classroom and individual teaching experience, they fully understand your syllabus and its nuances, anticipate the pitfalls and show you how to overcome them, build confidence and push you to achieve the very best you are capable of.
How is my approach different?
Most schools (and most tutors) will base their lessons around a textbook. And while that may seem familiar and reassuring the surprising truth is there has never been a textbook that properly meets the demands of the A-Level.
With many competing pressures, delivering the syllabus in sufficient detail can be a real challenge for even the best schools. Frequently just a handful of examples is all that is given before moving on to the next topic. Unsurprisingly, when it comes to exam papers many students have no idea where to start!
This is where I can really help.
I’ve spent much of my career creating and fine-tuning my resources so that everything I do is with the exam in mind, right from our very first lesson. I start with the basics and quickly delve deeper to explore how a few simple ideas can be applied in increasingly demanding and creative ways. I make extensive use of past paper questions, carefully sequenced to build confidence and help you acclimatise to every possible variation within a particular topic.
My targeted, bespoke approach will show you all the shortcuts, won’t dwell on the unnecessary, and will plug the gaps the textbooks leave behind. I'll show you how to apply your knowledge to a wide range of question styles and understand how various ideas in maths fit together so you are fully prepared when the time comes.
